Grafton is famous for the Jacaranda Festival which sees the streets carpeted in mauve flowers with a matching canopy above. The city boasts many historic buildings and cathedrals while the countryside surrounding Grafton offers many scenic drives either to remote beachside locations, rainforests and gorges.
The Clarence River also provides the perfect venue for water sports, with the Bridge to Bridge Ski Race (October), Sailing Classic (November), two of the spectacular events. July sees the July Racing Carnival, drawing many of the best horses and jockeys in the land and the Grafton Cup rates as the richest race in rural Australia.
